For small Illinois townships, villages, cities and districts

Behind on your Comptroller annual financial report? We catch it up for a fixed price.

Each late report can draw a fee of up to US$20 a day, and the Comptroller can order an audit and send your unit the bill. We prepare the annual financial report for every late year from your own bank statements and treasurer's records.

Your officer reviews it, signs and files. We invoice after delivery.

Send your unit's name or code. Within 2 business days you get a one-page statement of your late years and our fee estimate so far. No cost, no obligation.

What we do

One job: the annual financial report, done on time

The Comptroller designs the annual financial report so that it needs no professional accountant. What it does need is hours: a year of bank statements turned into the form's revenue, spending and fund balance lines. We do those hours for you.

  • Most units start here

    Catch-up

    US$2,000 to 4,500

Up to three late years, prepared from your records, with filing notes for each year. Older or longer gaps are quoted after the free statement.

    What is included

  • Every year after

    Yearly report

    US$600 to 1,800 a year

We send a reminder well before your due date, collect the year's records and return the report ready to file, so you never land on the list again.

    What is included

  • From fiscal 2027

    The audit-in-lieu switch

    US$1,000 to 2,500

Units under US$1.4 million in revenue may file the report instead of a yearly audit. We prepare the report and the board packet for the route your board picks.

How it works

Three steps, all by email

  1. Get your free statement

Send your unit's name or code. We send back a one-page statement: each late report, its due date, how many days late it is and our fee estimate so far.

  2. Send your records

We confirm a fixed price in writing. You send bank statements, treasurer's reports and your budget or appropriation ordinance for each late year. Scans and phone photos are fine.

  3. Review, sign, file

You get each year's report, checked against your bank statements, with step-by-step filing notes. Your officer reviews it, signs and files it in Comptroller Connect. Then we invoice, net 30.

Who does what

We prepare. Your officer signs and files.

What we do

  • Prepare the annual financial report for each year, from your records.
  • Check every total against your bank statements before it reaches you.
  • Write plain filing notes for Comptroller Connect, page by page.
  • List anything missing from your records, with the simplest way to get it.
  • Keep a calendar of your next due dates and remind you ahead of them.

What we do not do

  • Audits. An audit must be done by a licensed CPA, and we are not a CPA firm.
  • Log in as you. Your officer keeps the Comptroller Connect login and submits.
  • Give legal or accounting advice, or decide which audit route your board takes.
  • Ask the Comptroller to reduce your fees. That request is yours to make.

Questions

Questions treasurers and clerks ask

Our treasurer could file this. Why would we pay?

Many treasurers do file it themselves, and the form is built so they can. What we sell is time: several late years turned into finished reports in days, not months of evenings. If your treasurer has the time, the free statement still shows exactly what is late and what it may cost.

Are you accountants or a CPA firm?

No. We are not a CPA firm, we do not audit, and we give no opinion or assurance on your numbers. We prepare the annual financial report from your records, for your review and filing. Your officer checks it and signs.

Do you need our Comptroller Connect password?

No. Your officer keeps the login. Our filing notes follow the order of the pages in Comptroller Connect, so entering the figures and submitting goes quickly.

Will filing stop the fines?

The Comptroller's office says fees stop when a compliant report is received. A rejected or draft report loses its received date and the fees keep running, so we check every report against your records before you file it.

More on how the fees work

Can the fines be reduced?

The law lets the Comptroller reduce them. After you file, the Comptroller's office sends instructions for asking for a reduction. That request is yours to make; we do not make it for you.

Our records for the late years have gaps.

That is common. We start from bank statements, because your bank keeps them, and list anything still missing with the simplest way to get it. If a year cannot be rebuilt from what exists, we tell you before we start.

How do we pay, and does our board need to approve it?

You pay on invoice after delivery, net 30, by ACH bank transfer or check in US dollars. No deposit. We send a one-page fixed quote addressed to your board for the packet. We are a Canadian company, so we give US payers IRS Form W-8BEN-E instead of a W-9.
